Answered Questions about New Age Music

I recently was asked by a student working on his senior thesis on New Age music if I would have a short interview with about New Age music and this was my response:

Hi Andhi,
When I hear the words, "New Age music" I feel a magical connection to the positive spiritual energy that holds the universe together.  Sometimes the general perception of New Age music can be misconstrued and I feel that the average person has not discovered the power that New Age music brings us.  I consider the music that comes to me to be of the New Age genre, although my music differs from traditional New Age music.  The music that I hear is very melodic and much more structured than the average New Age song.  I enjoy hearing many types of New Age music and feel that there are more sub genres in New Age music than any other genre of music.  I grew up loving the Carl Sagan series "Cosmos" that includes music from my favorite artist Vangelis.  I was very drawn to that series inspiring my artist name "Cosmo Frequency".  I feel that every inspired melody that comes to me comes from the frequencies of the Cosmos.  I can feel connected where ever I am, and the most inspired melodies I hear can be recorded later on using synths, sample libraries, and computer sequencing software.  When I hear a beautiful sound in the studio it will often unlock melodies that I have heard in the past.  I find technology a great blessing to be able to record those inspired melodies.  I feel a need to share the music I hear and look forward as I continue to take that musical journey.

World Of Light

I just finished writing my latest song World Of Light.  This is my first Cosmo Frequency song to have Lyrics. I will begin recording the track this weekend and will have it available to hear in the coming weeks. I will be singing my song using a Vocoder Modeled Choir sound from one of my Roland Synths. For now I would like to share the lyrics for the song.

World Of Light:

Listen to what man forgot
Now it's more than just a thought
Conversation waiting to share
Listen to what love begot
Frequencies of inner thought
Searching for somebody to care
Waiting for a helping hand
Needing love to understand
And everything will be okay
In life we found ourselves  dreaming of love

After every moon lit sky
After every rising sun
You're still breathing
We're still dreaming above
Journey through a world of light
Conscious wisdom taking flight
You're still breathing
We're still dreaming above
Tearing down the walls of doubt
Feeling now what loves about
You're still breathing
We're still dreaming above
Here... Is... Love

Focus on your inner peace
Feel the love and find release
Revelation given to all
Focus on your full increase
Frequencies of inner peace
Asking for the wisdom of light
Offering a helping hand
Will help someone to understand
And everything will be okay
In life we found ourselves dreaming of love

Studio Upgrade bugs worked out!

I am happy to say the Apogee Ensemble is working great and I have successfully upgraded to Logic Studio 9.  When I had initially updated the firmware for the Apogee Ensemble it did not go through correctly even though I had no error that it had failed.  When I tried to run the firmware again it also did not allow.  The software and drivers went through but not the firmware and that was what was causing all the conflicts.  I finally did a reset on the Ensemble and then I was able to update the firmware.  I am still looking forward to getting the cable I ordered but have elected to buy the Apogee firewire cable.   I have to say I love the Apogee Ensemble sound.  I also have Logic configured just the way I want, and the only thing that is left to do is import my JV-1080 Environment into Logic.  I will be ready to start working on music again this week end and look to have my latest track "Canyon Chant" ready soon.

Studio Upgrades

My digital input on my old Firewire interface started having problems last week so I upgraded to a new interface this weekend.  I am now in the process of implementing the studio upgrades.  I just hooked up my replacement Firewire Audio Interface (Apogee Ensemble) that I purchased off ebay.  I am now working out the bugs, and making sure the device is okay. Testing the device with the firewire cable that it came with worked great with some simple testing, but the cable is too short for the way I have my set up.  I also tried plugging the short cable that works good into my Apple display monitor but there are known issues in doing that causing problems so I have to plug the firewire cable directly into my firewire port on my Mac.  In using my longer firewire cable it is slowing down the data transfer speed causing crackles and pops in the monitoring input and output so I had to order and am now waiting on a high end (Monster) Firewire cable to remedy the problem.  While waiting on the cable I am also performing software upgrades to the latest version of Logic Studio 9.  The new updates will also allow me to use state of the art UV22HR technology with my new interface to preserve every bit of audio with out having to lose the best of the high resolution 24-bit audio when converting to 16-bit, 44.1 kHz for CD or compressed formats like mp3.  I am looking forward to making music soon after these updates.  I will also be re-dithering the final masters on the 4 previous tracks to take advantage of the UV22HR mastering technology.

Horizon: Poem by Matt Bowen

I am pleased to announce that Matt Bowen will be writing poems for songs I compose.  The first poem I would like to share is a poem written for my song Horizon:

HORIZON

Panorama: the vision of all

is become unto us

the words of a song

almost unsealable now, sung in a tongue

we have only to relearn.

We sprint toward a West

where amazement must soon be set ablaze–

flaring skyward in golds, mock oranges,

crimsons, rusts– at what we’ve been,

at what we’re about to be . . .

The circle of all knowledge

that crowns this square earth,

the rim of heaven itself

growing ever wider

with each westward footfall.
